Double the wedding!

Twin sisters Katie and Bethany Kement have always shared the same birthday. Now they share the same anniversary.

The sisters held a joint wedding celebration last winter at Stowe Mountain Lodge.

Katie and her beau, Robert Horan, got engaged first and began planning a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic. The plans fell through several months later due to a cholera epidemic, and while the couple was struggling to find a new wedding locale, Bethany and future husband, Jameson Borey, announced their engagement.

“We were both looking to plan weddings in the next year,” Bethany said. “We’re very close, and our tastes are very similar. So we were planning weddings that looked very similar.”

They decided that a joint wedding made sense, but where? The sisters’ parents lived in Vermont when they were first married, so they began to research Vermont destination weddings and stumbled upon Stowe Mountain Lodge.

That winter, their husbands took them away on a shared birthday weekend to visit the Stowe hotel, which sits at the base of Mt. Mansfield. “We were sitting in the outdoor hot tub, having some champagne, listening to the snow guns on the mountain, and we decided this is it,” Bethany said.

One celebration, two weddings

On their wedding day, the sisters and their 12 bridesmaids got ready in the HGTV Dream Home overlooking Mt. Mansfield. “I felt like I had walked into a magazine cover,” Bethany said. “Every room I went into my jaw just hit the floor.”

In keeping with the Christmas-themed wedding, the bridesmaids wore red satin gowns, complete with scarves and mittens for the outdoor photos.

The celebration featured separate cocktail hours and ceremonies – Bethany and her fiancé, Jameson, were married first, followed by Katie and Robert.

“We wanted to share our wedding, which was important to us as twins, as sisters,” Bethany said. “But we didn’t want to forget that the day was about sharing our love with the men in our lives.”

A joint wine-and-cheese intermission took place between “I dos” in the lodge’s main lobby. The sisters, who were each other’s maid (and matron) of honor, shared the same bridesmaid dress.

After the ceremonies, the brides changed back into their bridal gowns for a festive reception in the grand ballroom.

In keeping with the shared celebration, the couples decided to pair up for their honeymoon – 10 days in Aruba.

“We travel a lot together,” Bethany said. “Our husbands have become close, and they’re both huge sports fans. So they could watch Patriots’ games together at the swim-up bar. They couldn’t have been happier.”

Both couples live in Northboro, Mass., and of course, they both work in the same profession. Bethany is an ER nurse while Katie works in maternity.
